Why Accents Matter

Accent is character. Whether you’re firing off a quick self-tape or preparing for a feature shoot, nailing a dialect can be make or break for the effectiveness of a performance.

Accents are human. We all know what it feels like when an actor’s accent is “off.” The performance feels unnatural, implacable, a veneer. When an accent performance is integrated, comfortable, natural—the character feels real.

I’m here to make a daunting task less daunting, and, dare I say it, fun. How? By breaking the process of learning a dialect down into manageable steps that can be mastered one at a time. The first step is always the same—be willing to let go, and make mistakes.

From there, it only gets easier.
